"GAZA, THE AFTERMATH" the book (CDP Editions)

or two years in a row Virginie Nguyen Hoang has travelled to Gaza. Beyond the pursuit of icons, her book ‘Gaza, the aftermath’ invites us, via an in-depth reporting into a population left bereft striving to live in spite of the protracted conflict raging on.

Acting as a form of resistance, defiance; hope is real and alive in the eyes. Throughout the pages emerges the picture of a difficult daily routine. Yet, despite all, it brims with tenderness and humanity. The author chooses to capture in a salutary and at times poetic fashion, entrapment as symbols of courage and freedom.

Here, the children of the war remain proud and their grinning faces eclipse for a moment the Israeli embargo. If Gaza is an open-air prison and man’s hand has covered its face, blindfolding it; a heavenly peace still emanates from many of these pictures.

Sans chasser les icônes, son livre « Gaza, the aftermath » nous livre un travail documentaire de longue haleine sur une population désarmée qui tente de vivre malgré le conflit.

Comme une forme de résistance, l’espoir est présent dans les regards.

Au fil des pages se dessine un quotidien difficile, il est aussi rempli de douceur et d'humanité.

L'auteure a fait le choix de saisir de façon salutaire, parfois poétique, l'enfermement comme synonyme de courage et de liberté.

Ici les enfants de la guerre sont fiers,

et les sourires nous font oublier le blocus israélien.

Et même si Gaza est une prison à ciel ouvert,

et même si la main de l’homme a rendu son visage aveugle,

certaines photographies évoquent une paix divine.
